Tuesday Bassen is a name well known in the illustrator world. Her quirky, tongue in cheek patches and pins are a must have for any collector or for anyone looking for a conversation starter.
She recently opened a shop with her boyfriend Ben Goetting in Chinatown called Friend Mart. Friend Mart is a collective shop of pins, patches, clothing, shoes, planters, and more! Although small in size, the shop carries a number of designers.
On Sunday, she hosted a pop-up and launched her exclusive “baegel” patch in collaboration with Yeastie Boys bagels. The market was called Schmear Campaign and featured a special guest, Chicago based political cartoonist and illustrator Bianca Xunise. The market also included artists Hellen Jo, Little Friends Of Printmaking, Penelope Gazin, Natasha Lillipore, Monsters Outside, and Carly Jean Andrews.
There was also custom live chain stitching by Ben Goetting of World Famous Original for anyone who wanted to add a little extra flair to their clothing.
In the back of the shop was an assembly line of Tuesday’s friends getting their hair and makeup done for an upcoming shoot. Tuesday hinted that it was for her upcoming Fall clothing line and she will be revealing the images for the launch party on September 9th.
There was never a dull moment be it inside of the shop, at the food truck, or outside with the market vendors.
If you’re in need of some fun art inspiration or just looking to add to your pin game, Friend Mart is the place for you.
