It's that time of the year - Spring is officially here! Flowers are in bloom, plants and trees are looking extra green and happy and we can't help but to enjoy every last bit of the beauty.
This week we are getting ready to celebrate Earth Day. We spent some time with Elizabeth-Ann Martins, floral artist and creative to learn more about her love for nature and her upcoming Green Garden Pop-Up here at Space 15 Twenty.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do!
I’m originally from the smallest but brightest state - Rhode Island, I’m a Montessori teacher who has a love for nature and everything green.
Have you always lived in LA?
I moved here 9 months ago.
When did you first become interested in florals?
My mom recommended me to take floral arrangement class at Uni, It was the best decision that I had ever made . I learned to arrange with different types of foliages and beautiful big colorful flower bulbs, from then on it opened up my perspective to start creating more pieces with flowers because flowers are one of the most valuable gifts of nature.
What are some of your favorite plants + flowers to work with?
I love working with all types of flowers because they are all joyous, unique and express different meanings. My favorite flowers to work with are big bulbs that include: hydrangeas, chrysanthemums and Dahlia’s and also garden flowers, I love the colors and the simplicity in them. Foliages are life, they're very dramatic, the texture and color speaks for itself, they are very settling but striking, the color green doesn't need any help it could stand on it own.
Tell us about your process when creating a new piece!
Before creating anything I usually go on long nature walks and visit different botanical gardens.
What are some of your biggest inspirations?
My inspirations are all around me mostly from nature.
What do you currently have on rotation right now?
sza, Daniel Ceaser, James Blake
What's next for Green Garden?
Creating more pieces and curating more events.
Lastly, what do you hope for people to take away from your upcoming pop-up and DIY!
I hope for people to improve fellowship with not only each other but also planet Earth, and to realize the greenery that Mother Earth beautifully created to be acknowledged and preserved.
