Hey There! Can you tell us a bit about Perry’s Place?
Perry’s Place is the home of Los Angeles-based cat rescue Heaven on Earth. Nestled in North Hollywood, Perry’s Place is a sanctuary for cats Heaven on Earth rescues from municipal shelters. It serves as both a long-term home for the cats in our care, as well as an adoption center. Those looking to welcome a friendly feline into their family can visit Perry’s Place during our open hours Thursdays and Fridays 3-8 p.m. as well as Saturdays and Sundays 1-6 p.m.
What is a regular day like there?
When you enter Perry’s Place, you are greeted by an adoption counselor who is excited to help you adopt a cat. During our open hours, you will see volunteers hard at work socializing shy cats, cleaning common rooms, scrubbing cat carriers that are used to transport cats safely to-and-from off-site adoption events and/or visits to the veterinarian.
What the public doesn’t see are the countless hours our devoted caretaker staff spend morning and evening caring for each and every one of the cats and kittens in our care.
What role does Perry’s Place play within the LA community?
Perry’s Place not only serves as a haven for cats who faced an uncertain fate at the city shelters, but also as an adoption center where families who are interested in adopting can stop by and work with one of our adoption counselors to find the purrfect cat(s) for their family.
As an active member of the NKLA (No-kill Los Angeles) coalition, Heaven on Earth is committed to making Los Angeles a no-kill city by the end of 2017. Whether it is through adopting, volunteering and/or donating, every single individual’s contribution helps make the lifesaving work we do possible and as impactful as it is today.
On average how many cats are rescued monthly?
During 2016, we’ve averaged 50 cats per month, with some months higher than others because of “kitten season,” that is, the warmer months when more kittens are born and arrive at municipal shelters in greater numbers. Next year, as part of our continued commitment to the No-Kill LA Initiative, we anticipate averaging more than 60 monthly.
How can one go about adopting a cat from Perry’s Place?
Whether you fall in love with a Heaven on Earth cat at one of our weekly mobile adoption events (and at special adoption events like Space15Twenty’s Holiday Marketplace!), we ask our adopters to complete an adoption questionnaire so we can be sure to help you find the purrfect feline for you and your family (and your others pets if you have any).
What do you see being the future of Perry’s Place?
Heaven on Earth envisions the day when no more cats in Los Angeles are homeless and none is killed for space. As a key partner in the NKLA Initiative and one of the area’s largest cat rescue organizations, we will continue to play an important part in Los Angeles achieving no-kill by providing safe haven at Perry’s Place for 175-200 cats and kittens at any given time (up to 1,000 cats and kittens during the course of a year), most of whom are with us temporarily while awaiting adoption after being pulled from the city shelters.
