Kalelanne Hoppe, UO Employee is a beauty extraordinaire and manager at our NorthPark Center in Dallas. In honor of Kaelani hosting our UO Beauty activations at Space 24 Twenty for UO Live in Austin, we visited her airy loft to discuss her beauty philosophy and what products are part of her daily beauty routine.
Hi Kaelanni! Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
I was born and raised in TX, and now I live in a quiet loft in Ft. Worth, TX with my boyfriend, our silver lab and cat. I spend most of my time begging my friends to let me take photos of them, treatin' myself to bubble baths, and taking naps with my cat.
How long have you worked for UO?
It will be five years in September! I started not even weeks after I turned 18. It was my first and my only job. Now I currently work as the WACC Department Manager in Dallas.
What's one of your favorite things about working at UO? Any favorite memory so far?
This job has given me the opportunity to try new things, meet new people, and travel to different places, which I never would have expected. It's the biggest creative outlet for me, and it's great to be in a place with like-minded people every single day. I don't have a specific favorite memory, but I've had so many coworkers over the past five years that are now my lifelong friends, and that's pretty cool.
Tell us about your beauty routine!
Most of my routine is at night before I go to bed. First, I exfoliate and then I use a rose aloe serum to battle redness and eczema. Then I'll apply Mario Badescu drying lotion to any blemishes! In the morning, it's all about dry shampoo (I'm a night shower person; don't judge me) and moisturizing. I don't wear a lot of makeup for my everyday wear, but I do spend a good amount of time getting the perfect boy brow. It's my favorite look right now.
Any products that you can't live without?
Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray! It's the most excited I've been about a hair product in a long time. It's a dry shampoo + hairspray combo and it's become my favorite go-to when my hair needs a little pick me up.
Also Mario Badescu Facial Spray- my skin is so sensitive that most products dry my skin out. This spray is great for setting my makeup for a dewy look or just a quick spray at night before I go to bed.
Can you share some tips + tricks
It's taken me a really long time to love my brows. Biggest tip for anyone trying to get their best brow: GROW THEM OUT. Just put the tweezers down, trust me. Get a good pencil liner that matches your hair color to outline the shape, and invest in a brow gel to fill them in and give them texture. Finish it with a shiny highlight on your brow bone.
Who are some of your beauty/style icons?
90s Drew Barrymore, Edie Sedgwick, and pretty much the entire cast of Friends. Chandler Bing included.
What beauty trends are you into right now?
The soft + natural look is everything. Mostly because I don't have the skill to contour, but the fresh face with a good highlight and matte lip is timeless.
How has your look evolved over the years?
I've become way less trendy. I made the mistake of buying into every single trend only to sell or throw away everything in a year when it wasn't "in" any more. I still like to keep my look fun and interesting, but I'm a lot smarter about the things I spend money on. Beauty and skincare included. No shame against over-the-counter makeup, but my skin has never been more thankful and healthier since I stopped buying into that.
Lastly, what are you looking forward to most for UO Live Austin!
Meeting new people! I'm so excited to see everyone and share what's been working for me and hopefully learn what's been working for everyone else.
